Special Committees
Special Committees active during the Winter 2010 term:
Earth Hour: Every term the UWSP board holds one large, campus-wide event. This Winter it will once again be Earth Hour in March. We are looking for 1 volunteer, preferably with experience in organizing events, to coordinate the event from start to finish. This will include recruiting volunteers for your committee, holding organizing meetings, and being as creative as possible to bring Earth Hour to UW!
UWSP Vision:
The Campus Vision was initiated in the Fall of 2009 and was started to look at all the buildings and aspects (sidewalks, road crossing, composting program, etc.) of the campus and trying to green them. The Campus Vision is like a Campus Master Plan with any of the changes we would make to any of the existing buildings and developing any policies for future construction and design of buildings on campus. The
director(s) will coordinate with all of the working groups to work on this ambitious project. This will include recruiting volunteers for your committee, holding meetings throughout the week, researching best practices and coordinating with working groups.
Greening C&Ds:
UWSP has begun its initiative to "Green" the C&D shops on campus. The overall aim is to get all C&Ds on campus to provide more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable options. An example is trying to get the Engineering coffee shop in CPH to switch from Styrofoam to biodegradable cups for their coffee. A pilot project has begun with the Science C&D, operating at the entrance to Biology 1. A frequent-coffee buyer program has been initiated to encourage use of travel mugs instead of disposable cups. Further improvements are in the works!
This position will include recruiting volunteers for your committee to go out and connect with the people who run these C+Ds, research the various ways they can green their business and continually updating UWSP on the status of your suggestions.
